Holy Sh-t!!

This is an example of evolution almost proven.  The food chain should have been kept in order but evidently this Great White shark didn’t feel hungry.  Below is a video this guy tool while stand up paddle boarding.  Here is a link to the actual story.

Dinner for Schmucks – Pretty Good

The best part of Dinner for Schmucks is the cast.  Of course you have Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zack Galifianakis, Ron Livingston (Office Space) and my favorite… Jemaine Clement from The Flight Of The Conchords!  The story is funny and the little mouse art is ridiculous.

Mandee and I thought it was funnier than the rest of the audience since most people didn’t really laugh when Carell said… “I lost her clitoris… I thought I found it in her purse once”.  We both laughed our asses off but not many others did.  Evidently there must have been men in the audience who have lost them in the past too… sore subject.

Now I know why i am scrawny!

I knew there was a legitimate explanation as to why I am so skinny.  The Germans figured it out with this story…

“Stare at boobs for longer life”

I must be the healthiest person in the world.

Science Café was fantastic

Thursday night Blake, Mandee and myself attended the Science Cafe at Semolino's.  This was the first one I have attended and I was very happy I did.  Dr. Ken Miller was the speaker for the topic "God, Darwin and Global Warming, does science really matter in America today?".  Luckily he didn't waste any time on global warming and spent the bulk of time on science and religion.  He also took quite a few questions on a variety of subjects.  I was very impressed with his overall knowledge from religion, cellular biology and the cosmos.  He obviously is an academic which in this case isn't a bad thing.  He wasn't stuffy or arrogant at all.

This was obviously a very hot topic since Semolino's ended up being standing room only.  I was very proud of Hays Kansas that a topic like this could be discussed in public without a religious picket line or something of the sort.  The most important fact that came out of the evening was that scientists do a horrible job of selling their "Facts".  Examples:  Evolution is no longer a theory, it is a fact.  Another, the earth is not 6,000 years old like a very popular children's story likes to tell.

Dr. Miller also made it clear that we should pay attention to who our state representatives are to avoid what happened with the Kansas state school board earlier in the decade.  If you don't know what happened you need to watch "Flock of the Dodos" which is a fantastic non biased look at science and religion in schools.  This was even more interesting considering Dr. miller is also a religious man and he understands how dangerous the teaching of creationism in schools is.  He doesn’t believe science and faith can’t go hand in hand.  I can see that point of view as long as religion doesn’t try to pass itself off as science.  The idea of science is to test an idea until you can prove it therefore making it fact.  Faith and religion have no way of being proven so therefore it cannot be science, therefore it shouldn’t be taught in schools.

Dr. Miller has been on various television shows over then years including The Colbert Report.  Click here for the first time he was on the show.  This link will take you to is latest appearance.
